F**k!
It’s just been announced, the WSOP is no longer allowing profanity at the poker tables. Harrah’s, the company that owns the WSOP brand actually wants to enforce the following rule. “There shall be no profanity in any public area of the casino anywhere at any time.”
And it’s a “F***ing shame!” writes Gambling911.com reporter Jenny Woo. “What we love about poker is that the game is so raw.” It’s the closest thing to war as you can get without actual bloodshed and violence. It’s not as if it’s a kid friendly game to begin with. Anyone under 18 year olds isn’t even allowed to gamble in the US as it is.
Look at any other sports event; it’s not uncommon at all for people to be screaming and cussing and raising general hell on the court, field, and even from the stands. But to censor the players at such a high stakes online poker tournament. It’s unheard of. And more than that, it’s simply immature to think that even if the kiddies are watching that they haven’t heard much worse from the music they listen to, the movies they watch, the books they read, and perhaps even their parents.
Harrah’s, shame on you for trying to set parameters on a game that is at it’s very essence a game of randomness. Shame on you more for censorship in the first place. But most of all shame on using a penalty system to enforce such a pointless rule to begin with. Who are you actually protecting here? My guess is yourself, from the FCC.
