Sony PSP Mobile
The results of a new survey by the best buy mobile has just been released. The survey questioned 1000 Americans between the age of 18 and 55. During the survey, over 47% of those questioned admitted to not currently owning a smart phone, and putting the reason down to the fact that it was too confusing to differentiate between smart phones and normal mobile phones.
Interestingly a large proportion of those surveyed do actually plan on buying a smart phone within the next 12 months.
Now we move on to some interesting mobile phone related news from Japan. According to a respected daily newspaper there, Sony are currently considering the idea of making a device which combines the best of its mobile phone technology with its very popular PSP games platform. Some commentators have dubbed this the PSP mobile. Perhaps its a good way to move into the mobile phone recycling areana?
The company have seen that a number of the major games studios including, Capcom and electronic arts, are in the process of developing games that are designed for Apple’s landmark touchscreen device, the iPhone. This means that the iPhone and the iPod touch would start to be pitied in direct competition with Sony’s PSP Nintendo’s DS games machine.
Sony actually filed a patents application for a portable games device which had a phone capabilities back in 2007; however as recently as this year the Sony brand have refused to sanction the use of the PlayStation brand by its mobile phone division, Sony Ericsson. This means that hardcore gamers should probably not get their hopes up too high.
Currently Sony deny that there are any plans to introduce a PSP phone, however elements of the media navigation system which are crucial in the PSP and PlayStation 3 would start to be implemented across a broad range of Sony devices over the coming months.
